Josua / Joshua 1.
1.
Nach dem Tode Moses, des Knechtes des Herrn ,
Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that
sprach der Herr zu Josua , dem Sohn Nuns, Moses Diener :
the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun , Moses' minister, saying,
2.
Mein Knecht Mose ist gestorben; so mache dich nun auf und
Moses my servant is dead ; now therefore arise ,
ziehe über diesen Jordan, du und dieß ganze Volk , in das Land, das
go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which
Ich ihnen, den Kindern Israel, gegeben habe.
I do give to them , [even] to the children of Israel .
3.
Alle Stätte, darauf eure Fußsohlen treten werden ,
Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that

have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses .
4.
Von der Wüste an und diesem Libanon bis an das große Wasser
From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river , the river
Phrath , das ganze Land der Hethiter bis an das große Meer gegen
Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward
dem Abend sollen eure Grenzen sein.

5.
Es soll dir Niemand widerstehen
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of
dein Leben lang. Wie ich mit Mose gewesen bin, also will ich auch
thy life : as I was with Moses , [so] I will be
mit dir sein; ich will dich nicht verlassen , noch von dir weichen .
with thee : I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
6.
Sei getrost und unverzagt ; denn du sollst diesem Volke
Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou

Und laß das Buch dieses Gesetzes nicht von deinem Munde
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth
kommen, sondern betrachte es Tag und Nacht, auf daß du

Da gebot Josua den Hauptleuten des Volkes und sprach:
Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people , saying,
11.
Gehet durch das Lager und gebietet dem Volke und sprechet: Schaffet euch
Pass through the host , and command the people , saying , Prepare you
Vorrath , denn über drei Tagen werdet ihr über diesen Jordan gehen,
victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan ,
daß ihr hinein kommt und das Land einnehmet, das euch der Herr,

Und zu den Rubenitern, Gaditern und dem halben Stamm
And to the Reubenites , and to the Gadites , and to half the tribe of

Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,
13.
Gedenket an das Wort, das euch Mose , der Knecht des Herrn, sagte
Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded
und sprach: Der Herr, euer Gott, hat euch zur Ruhe gebracht und
you , saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest , and

14.
Eure Weiber und Kinder und Vieh lasset im Lande
Your wives , your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land

sollt vor euren Brüdern herziehen gerüstet, was streitbare

18.
Wer deinem Munde ungehorsam ist
Whosoever [he be] that doth rebel against thy commandment ,
und nicht gehorcht deinen Worten in Allem, das du uns gebeutst
and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest
, der soll sterben. Sei nur getrost und unverzagt .

1.
Josua aber, der Sohn Nuns, hatte zwei Kundschafter
And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men

And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land

, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you

So schwöret mir nun bei dem Herrn, daß, weil ich

Die Männer sprachen zu ihr: Thun wir nicht
And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this

Da ließ sie dieselben am Seil durch das Fenster hernieder; denn
Then she let them down by a cord through the window : for
ihr Haus war an der Stadtmauer, und sie wohnte auch auf der Mauer.
her house [was] upon the town wall , and she dwelt upon the wall .
16.
Und sie sprach zu ihnen: Gehet auf das Gebirge , daß euch nicht
And she said unto them , Get you to the mountain, lest
begegnen, die euch nachjagen , und verberget euch daselbst drei
the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three
Tage, bis daß die wieder kommen, die euch nachjagen , darnach
days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward
ziehet eure Straße.

17.
Die Männer aber sprachen zu ihr: Wir wollen aber des
And the men said unto her, We [will be] blameless of this

18.
Wenn wir kommen in das Land und du nicht das rothe
Behold, [when] we come into the land , thou shalt bind this

And it shall be, [that] whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house

[will be] guiltless : and whosoever shall be with thee in the house

Und sprachen zu Josua : Der Herr hat uns alles Land
And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered
in unsere Hände gegeben , auch so sind alle Einwohner
into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants

Josua / Joshua 3.
1.
Und Josua machte sich früh auf, und sie zogen aus Sittim
And Joshua rose early in the morning ; and they removed from Shittim,
und kamen an den Jordan, er und alle Kinder Israel, und blieben
and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged
daselbst über Nacht, ehe sie hinüber zogen .

2.
Nach dreien Tagen aber gingen die Hauptleute
And it came to pass after three days , that the officers went

Doch daß zwischen euch und ihr Raum sei bei zwei

ihr wisset, auf welchem Wege ihr gehen sollet ; denn ihr seid
ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have

Und Josua sprach zum Volke : Heiliget euch , denn morgen wird der
And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the

Und zu den Priestern sprach er: Traget die Lade des

so stehet stille .
ye shall stand still in Jordan.
9.
Und Josua sprach zu den Kindern Israel: Herzu , und höret die Worte
And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words
des Herrn, eures Gottes!

10.
Und sprach: Dabei sollt ihr merken, daß ein lebendiger Gott
And Joshua said , Hereby ye shall know that the living God [is]

aufgerichtet über einem Haufen, sehr ferne von den Leuten der Stadt , die

What [mean] these stones?
22.
So sollt ihr ihnen kund thun und sagen : Israel ging trocken
Then ye shall let your children know , saying, Israel came
durch den Jordan ,
over this Jordan on dry land.
23.
Da der Herr, euer Gott, das Wasser des Jordans vertrocknete
For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from
vor euch, bis ihr hinüber ginget, gleichwie der Herr, euer
before you , until ye were passed over , as the LORD your
Gott, that in dem Schilfmeer, das er vor uns vertrocknete,
God did to the Red sea , which he dried up from before us ,
bis wir hindurch gingen.

24.
Auf daß alle Völker auf Erden die Hand des Herrn erkennen,
That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD ,
wie mächtig sie ist , daß ihr den Herrn, euren Gott,
that it [is] mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God

1.
Da nun alle Könige der Amoriter, die

1.
Jericho aber war verschlossen und verwahrt vor den Kindern
Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children
Israel, daß Niemand aus= oder einkommen konnte.

2.
Aber der Herr sprach zu Josua : Siehe da, ich habe
And the LORD said unto Joshua, See , I have given into thine hand

Da Josua solches dem Volke gesagt
And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people

bleiben und Alle, die mit ihr im Hause sind; denn sie hat
, she and all that [are] with her in the house , because she

And ye, in any wise keep [yourselves] from the accursed thing, lest ye

19.
Aber alles Silber und Gold sammt dem ehernen und eisernen Geräthe
But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron ,

Aber Josua sprach zu den zwei Männern, die das Land
But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country
erkundschaftet hatten: Gehet in das Haus der Hure und führet
, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out

23.
Da gingen die Jünglinge, die Kundschafter, hinein und führten
And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out
Rahab heraus, sammt ihrem Vater und Mutter und Brüdern und Alles,
Rahab , and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all
was sie hatte, und alle ihre Geschlechter, und ließen sie
that she had ; and they brought out all her kindred , and left them
draußen außer dem Lager Israels.

Aber die Stadt verbrannten sie mit Feuer und Alles, was

And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's
und Alles, was sie hatte, ließ Josua leben. Und sie wohnt in
household, and all that she had ; and she dwelleth in
Israel bis auf diesen Tag, darum, daß sie die Boten verborgen

And Joshua adjured [them] at that time , saying, Cursed [be]

. Wenn er ihren Grund legt, das
this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof

his youngest [son] shall he set up the gates of it.
27.
Also war der Herr mit Josua , daß man von ihm sagte
So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was [noised]
in allen Landen .
throughout all the country.
Josua / Joshua 7.
1.
Aber die Kinder Israel vergriffen sich an dem Verbannten ;
But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing:
denn Achan, der Sohn Charmis, des Sohns Sabdis, des Sohns Serahs
for Achan, the son of Carmi , the son of Zabdi , the son of Zerah ,
vom Stamme Juda , nahm des Verbannten etwas. Da ergrimmte der

Kamen sie wieder zu Josua und sprachen zu ihm: Laß nicht das ganze
And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all
Volk hinauf ziehen, sondern bei zwei oder drei tausend Mann,
the people go up ; but let about two or three thousand men
daß sie hinauf ziehen und schlagen Ai, daß nicht das ganze Volk
go up and smite Ai; [and] make not all the people
sich daselbst bemühe, denn ihrer ist wenig.
to labour thither ; for they [are but] few .
4.
Also zogen hinauf des Volks bei drei tausend Mann, und

Und die von Ai schlugen ihrer bei sechs und dreißig Mann, und
And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men : for

And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face

Israel hat sich versündigt, und haben meinen Bund

[but] turned [their] backs before their enemies ,
denn sie sind im Bann . Ich werde hinfort nicht mit euch sein

13.
Stehe auf und heilige das Volk und sprich: Heiliget euch auf

Und Josua sprach zu Achan: Mein Sohn, gib dem Herrn,
And Joshua said unto Achan, My son , give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD

Da antwortete Achan Josua und sprach: Wahrlich, ich habe mich

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not , neither be thou dismayed

zeuch hinauf gen Ai; siehe da, ich habe den König Ai
go up to Ai: see , I have given into thy hand the king of Ai,

Und sollst mit Ai und ihrem Könige thun, wie du mit Jericho
And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho
und ihrem Könige gethan hast, ohne daß ihr ihren Raub und ihr

: for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand .
8.
Wenn ihr aber die Stadt eingenommen habt, so
And it shall be, when ye have taken the city , [that] ye

Und sie jagten auch Josua nach und rissen sich von der Stadt heraus, daß

And the king of Ai they took alive , and brought him to Joshua.

Und da Israel alle Einwohner
And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants

32.
Und schrieb daselbst auf die Steine das andere Gesetz, das Mose
And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses,

Und das ganze Israel mit seinen Aeltesten und Amtleuten und Richtern
And all Israel, and their elders , and officers , and their judges ,

Sie sprachen : Deine Knechte sind aus sehr fernen Landen

denn wir haben sein Gerücht gehört und Alles, was er in

And all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that [were]

Darum sprachen unsere Aeltesten und alle Einwohner unseres Landes
Wherefore our elders and all the inhabitants of our country
: Nehmet Speise mit euch auf die Reise , und gehet hin
spake to us, saying, Take victuals with you for the journey, and go
ihnen entgegen und sprechet zu ihnen: Wir sind eure Knechte .
to meet them, and say unto them , We [are] your servants:
So machet nun einen Bund mit uns.
therefore now make ye a league with us .
12.
Dieß unser Brod , das wir aus unsern Häusern zu
This our bread we took hot [for] our provision out of our houses
unserer Speise nahmen, war noch frisch, da wir auszogen zu

you ; but now, behold, it is dry , and it is mouldy :

Und diese Weinschläuche füllten wir neu, und siehe , sie
And these bottles of wine, which we filled , [were] new; and, behold, they

Aber über drei Tage, nachdem sie mit ihnen

Israels. Da aber die ganze Gemeinde wider die Obersten

Sprachen alle Obersten der ganzen Gemeinde : Wir haben
But all the princes said unto all the congregation, We have
ihnen geschworen bei dem Herrn, dem Gott Israels; darum
sworn unto them by the LORD God of Israel : now therefore we
können wir sie nicht antasten .
may not touch them.
20.
Aber das wollen wir thun : Lasset sie leben, daß nicht
This we will do to them; we will even let them live , lest
ein Zorn über uns komme um des Eides willen, den wir
wrath be upon us , because of the oath which we sware
ihnen gethan haben.
unto them .
21.
Und die Obersten sprachen zu ihnen: Lasset sie leben, daß sie
And the princes said unto them , Let them live ; but let them be

hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation; as
ihnen die Obersten gesagt haben .
the princes had promised them.
22.
Da rief sie Josua und redete mit ihnen und sprach:
And Joshua called for them , and he spake unto them , saying,
Warum habt ihr uns betrogen und gesagt: ihr seid sehr ferne von uns,
Wherefore have ye beguiled us , saying, We [are] very far from you;
so ihr doch unter uns wohnet?
when ye dwell among us ?
23.
Darum sollt ihr verflucht sein, daß unter euch
Now therefore ye [are] cursed , and there shall none of you
nicht aufhören Knechte, die Holz hauen und Wasser tragen
be freed from being bondmen, and hewers of wood and drawers
zum Hause meines Gottes.

24.
Sie antworteten Josua und sprachen: Es ist deinen

Also schlug Josua alles Land auf dem Gebirge und gegen Mittag

to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

And to the kings that [were] on the north of the mountains, and
auf dem Gefilde gegen Mittag Cinneroths, und in den Gründen und in
of the plains south of Chinneroth , and in the valley , and in the
Naphoth=Dor am Meere wohnten;
borders of Dor on the west ,
3.
Die Canaaniter gegen dem Morgen und Abend, die
[And to] the Canaanite on the east and on the west , and [to] the
Amoriter, Hethiter, Pheresiter und Jebusiter auf dem
Amorite , and the Hittite , and the Perizzite , and the Jebusite in the
Gebirge , dazu die Heviter unten am Berge Hermon im Lande Mizpa ,
mountains, and [to] the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.
4.
Diese zogen aus mit allem ihrem Heer , ein großes Volk ,
And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people,
so viel als des Sandes am Meer , und sehr
even as the sand that [is] upon the sea shore in multitude, with
viele Rosse und Wagen .
horses and chariots very many.
5.
Alle diese Könige versammelten sich , und kamen und
And when all these kings were met together, they came and
lagerten sich zu Haufen an das Wasser Merom, zu streiten mit Israel.
pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.
6.
Und der Herr sprach zu Josua : Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen,
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them :
denn morgen um diese Zeit will ich sie alle erschlagen geben
for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain
vor den Kindern Israel; ihre Rosse sollst du verlähmen
before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses ,
und ihre Wagen mit Feuer verbrennen.
and burn their chariots with fire .
7.
Und Josua kam plötzlich über sie, und alles Kriegsvolk mit ihm
So Joshua came , and all the people of war with him, against

And all the cities of those kings , and all the kings of

stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor

And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of
Israel unter sich ; aber alle Menschen schlugen sie

Also nahm Josua alles dieß Land ein auf dem Gebirge und alles, was

and all their kings he took , and smote them, and slew them.
18.
Er stritt aber eine lange Zeit mit diesen Königen.
Joshua made war a long time with all those kings .
19.
Es war aber keine Stadt, die sich mit Frieden ergab den
There was not a city that made peace with the
Kindern Israel, ausgenommen die Heviter, die zu Gibeon wohnten,
children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon :
sondern sie gewannen sie alle mit Streit.

20.
Und das geschah also von dem Herrn, daß ihr Herz verstockt würde,
For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts ,
mit Streit zu begegnen den Kindern Israel , auf daß
that they should come against Israel in battle, that
sie verbannt würden und ihnen keine Gnade
he might destroy them utterly , [and] that they might have no favour
widerführe, sondern vertilgt würden , wie der Herr Mosen
, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD

21.
Zu der Zeit kam Josua und rottete aus die Enakim vom Gebirge ,
And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains,
von Hebron, von Debir, von Anab, von allem Gebirge Judas und
from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and
von allem Gebirge Israels, und verbannte sie mit ihren

of Israel smote on this side Jordan on the west , from Baal-gad

1.
Da nun Josua alt war und wohl betagt , sprach der Herr
Now Joshua was old [and] stricken in years; and the LORD said
zu ihm: Du bist alt geworden und wohl betagt , und
unto him, Thou art old [and] stricken in years, and there remaineth
des Landes ist fast noch viel übrig einzunehmen ,
yet very much land to be possessed.
2.
Nämlich das ganze Galiläa der

Von Mittag an aber ist das ganze Land der Canaaniter und Meara
From the south , all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah
der Zidonier bis gen Aphek, bis an die Grenze der
that [is] beside the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the borders of the
Amoriter;

5.
Dazu das Land der Gibliter und der ganze Libanon, gegen der Sonne Aufgang
And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising ,

6.
Alle, die auf dem Gebirge wohnen, vom Libanon an bis an die
All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto
warmen Wasser , und alle Zidonier : Ich will sie vertreiben
Misrephoth-maim, [and] all the Sidonians, them will I drive out

7.
So theile nun dieß Land zum Erbe unter die neun Stämme

8.
Denn die Rubeniter und Gaditer haben mit dem andern halben Stamm
With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have
Manasse ihr Erbtheil empfangen, das ihnen Mose gab

jenseit des Jordans gegen dem Aufgang, wie ihnen dasselbe Mose , der
beyond Jordan eastward , [even] as Moses the
Knecht des Herrn, gegeben hat ;
servant of the LORD gave them;
9.
Von Aroer an, die am Ufer des Wassers bei Arnon liegt, und von

the city that [is] in the midst of the river , and all the plain of Medeba
bis gen Dibon;

10.
Und alle Städte Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, der zu
And all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in
Hesbon saß, bis an die Grenze der Kinder Ammons;
Heshbon , unto the border of the children of Ammon ;
11.
Dazu Gilead und die Grenze an Gessuri und Maachath , und den ganzen
And Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all
Berg Hermon, und das ganze Basan bis gen Salcha;
mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salcah;
12.
Das ganze Reich Og zu Basan , der zu Astharoth und Edrei
All the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei
saß, welcher noch ein Uebriger war von den Riesen. Mose
, who remained of the remnant of the giants: for these did Moses
aber schlug sie und vertrieb sie .
smite , and cast them out.
13.
Die Kinder Israel aber vertrieben die zu Gessur und
Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor
zu Maachath nicht, sondern es wohnen beide, Gessur und
the Maachathites : but the Geshurites and the
Maachath , unter den Kindern Israel bis auf diesen Tag.
Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.
14.
Aber dem Stamme der Leviten gab er kein Erbtheil ; denn das

23.

24.
Dem Stamm der Kinder
And Moses gave [inheritance] unto the tribe of Gad, [even] unto the children of

25.

Jordan and [his] border , [even] unto the edge of the sea of

28.
Das ist das Erbtheil der Kinder Gads in ihren Geschlechtern,
This [is] the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families ,

the cities , and their villages.
29.
Dem halben Stamme der Kinder Manasses
And Moses gave [inheritance] unto the half tribe of Manasseh: and
nach
[this] was [the possession] of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by

their families .
30.
Daß ihre Grenzen waren von Mahanaim an das ganze Basan , das ganze
And their coast was from Mahanaim , all Bashan, all the

of Og in Bashan, [were pertaining] unto the children of Machir the son

Das ist es , das Mose ausgetheilt hat in
These [are the countries] which Moses did distribute for inheritance in

33.

3.
Denn den zweien und dem halben Stamm
For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe
hatte Mose Erbtheil gegeben jenseit des Jordans. Den Leviten
on the other side Jordan : but unto the Levites
aber hatte er kein Erbtheil unter ihnen gegeben.
he gave none inheritance among them .
4.
Denn der Kinder Josephs wurden zwei Stämme, Manasse und Ephraim;
For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim:
darum gaben sie den Leviten kein Theil im Lande,
therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land ,
sondern Städte, darinnen zu wohnen , und Vorstädte für ihr Vieh
save cities to dwell [in], with their suburbs for their cattle
und Habe .
and for their substance.
5.
Wie der Herr Mosen geboten hatte , so thaten die Kinder Israel ,
As the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did,
und theilten das Land.
and they divided the land.
6.
Da traten herzu die Kinder Judas zu Josua zu Gilgal, und Caleb,
Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb
der Sohn Jephunnes, der Kenisiter, sprach zu ihm: Du weißt ,
the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing

that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me

7.

8.
Aber meine Brüder , die mit mir hinauf gegangen waren,
Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me
machten dem Volke das Herz verzagt. Ich aber folgte

Da schwur Mose desselben Tages und sprach: Das Land, darauf du

And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive , as he said ,
Es sind nun fünf und vierzig Jahre, daß der Herr

So läßt euch sagen die ganze Gemeinde des Herrn: Wie versündiget

17.
Ist es uns zu wenig an der Missethat Peors , von welcher

was a plague in the congregation of the LORD ,
18.
Und ihr wendet euch heute von dem Herrn weg, und
But that ye must turn away this day from following the LORD ? and
seid heute abtrünnig geworden von dem Herrn,
it will be, [seeing] ye rebel to day against the LORD ,
daß er heute oder morgen über die ganze Gemeinde
that to morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of
Israels erzürne.

19.
Dünket euch das Land eures Erbes unrein ,
Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession [be] unclean,
so kommt herüber ins Land, das der Herr hat,
[then] pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the LORD ,
da die Wohnung des Herrn steht , und erbet unter
wherein the LORD'S tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among
uns, und werdet nicht abtrünnig von dem Herrn und von uns, daß
us : but rebel not against the LORD , nor rebel against us , in

20.
Versündigte sich nicht Achan, der Sohn Serahs, am

22.
Der starke Gott, der Herr , der starke Gott, der Herr ,
The LORD God of gods, the LORD God of gods,
weiß , so weiß Israel auch : fallen wir ab,
he knoweth, and Israel he shall know; if [it be] in rebellion ,
oder sündigen wider den Herrn, so helfe er uns heute
or if in transgression against the LORD , ( save us not this day
nicht!
,)
23.
Und so wir darum den Altar gebaut haben, daß wir uns von

Und so wir es nicht vielmehr aus Sorge des Dings gethan
And if we have not [rather] done it for fear of [this] thing
haben, und sprachen: Heute oder morgen möchten eure Kinder zu
, saying , In time to come your children might speak unto

our children, saying, What have ye to do with the LORD God of
Israels an?

25.
Der Herr hat den Jordan zur Grenze gesetzt zwischen uns und euch
For the LORD hath made Jordan a border between us and you , ye

Damit würden eure Kinder unsere Kinder von der Furcht des

26.
Darum sprachen wir: Lasset uns einen Altar
Therefore we said , Let us now prepare to build us an altar

27.
Sondern daß er ein Zeuge sei zwischen uns und euch und unsern
But [that] it [may be] a witness between us , and you , and our
Nachkommen , daß wir dem Herrn Dienst thun
generations after us, that we might do the service of the LORD
mögen vor ihm mit unsern Brandopfern , Dankopfern und
before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with

erkennen wir, daß der Herr unter uns ist, daß ihr euch nicht
we perceive that the LORD [is] among us , because ye have not

1.
Und nach langer Zeit , da der Herr hatte
And it came to pass a long time after that the LORD had given rest

nun alt und wohl betagt war,
waxed old [and] stricken in age .
2.
Berief er das ganze Israel und ihre Aeltesten,
And Joshua called for all Israel, [and] for their elders , and for

their heads , and for their judges , and for their officers, and said unto
ihnen: Ich bin alt und wohl betagt ;
them , I am old [and] stricken in age:
3.
Und ihr habt gesehen Alles, was der Herr, euer Gott, gethan hat an

5.
Und der Herr, euer Gott, wird sie ausstoßen vor euch und
And the LORD your God , he shall expel them from before you , and

6.
So seid nun sehr getrost , daß ihr haltet und thut Alles, was

Auf daß ihr nicht unter diese übrigen Völker kommet, die

mit euch sind, und nicht gedenket noch
among you ; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause
schwöret bei dem Namen ihrer Götter, noch ihnen dienet , noch sie
to swear [by them] , neither serve them, nor
anbetet ;
bow yourselves unto them:
8.
Sondern dem Herrn, eurem Gott, anhanget, wie ihr bis auf
But cleave unto the LORD your God , as ye have done unto
diesen Tag gethan habt.

9.
So wird der Herr vor euch her vertreiben große
For the LORD hath driven out from before you great nations
und mächtige Völker; und Niemand hat euch
and strong : but [as for] you, no man hath been able to
widerstanden bis auf diesen Tag.

10.
Euer Einer wird Tausend jagen, denn der Herr, euer Gott,
One man of you shall chase a thousand : for the LORD your God , he
streitet für euch, wie er euch geredet hat .
[it is] that fighteth for you , as he hath promised you.
11.
Darum so behütet auf das fleißigste eure Seelen, daß ihr
Take good heed therefore unto yourselves , that ye
den Herrn, euren Gott, lieb habet.
love the LORD your God .
12.
Wo ihr euch aber umwendet und
Else if ye do in any wise go back , and cleave unto the remnant of

these nations , [even] these that remain among you, and
mit ihnen verheirathet, daß ihr unter sie und
shall make marriages with them , and go in unto them, and
sie unter euch kommen:

So wisset , daß der Herr, euer Gott, wird nicht mehr
Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out
alle diese Völker vor euch vertreiben; sondern sie werden euch
[any of] these nations from before you ; but they shall
zum Strick und Netz und zur Geisel in euren Seiten werden und
be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides , and
zum Stachel in euren Augen, bis daß er euch umbringe von dem guten Lande,
thorns in your eyes , until ye perish from off this good land
das euch der Herr, euer Gott, gegeben hat .

14.
Siehe , ich gehe heute dahin wie alle Welt ; und ihr
And, behold, this day I [am] going the way of all the earth: and ye

Josua / Joshua 24.
1.
Josua versammelte alle Stämme Israels gen Sichem und berief
And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for

the elders of Israel, and for their heads , and for their judges , and

Sprach er zum ganzen Volke : So sagt der Herr, der Gott
And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of
Israels: Eure Väter wohnten vor Zeiten jenseit des Wassers
Israel , Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in
, Tharah, Abrahams und Nahors
old time, [even] Terah, the father of Abraham , and the father of Nachor
Vater, und dienten andern Göttern.

3.
Da nahm ich euren Vater Abraham jenseit des Wassers, und
And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood , and
ließ ihn wandern im ganzen Lande Canaan und mehrte ihm seinen

4.

7.
Da schrieen sie zum Herrn, der setzte eine Finsterniß zwischen
And when they cried unto the LORD , he put darkness between
euch und den Egyptern und führte das Meer über sie und bedeckte sie . Und
you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and
eure Augen haben gesehen, was ich in Egypten gethan habe. Und ihr
your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt : and ye
habt gewohnt in der Wüste eine lange Zeit .
dwelt in the wilderness a long season.
8.
Und ich habe euch gebracht in das Land der Amoriter, die
And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on
jenseit des Jordans wohnten; und da sie wider euch stritten,
the other side Jordan ; and they fought with you : and
gab ich sie in eure Hände, daß ihr ihr Land besaßet, und
I gave them into your hand , that ye might possess their land ; and
vertilgte sie vor euch her.
I destroyed them from before you .
9.
Da machte sich auf Balak, der Sohn Zipors, der Moabiter König,
Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab ,
und stritt wider Israel, und sandte hin und ließ rufen Bileam, den
arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the
Sohn Beors, daß er euch verfluchte ;
son of Beor to curse you:
10.
Aber ich wollte ihn nicht hören . Und er segnete euch ,
But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still:
und ich errettete euch aus seinen Händen.
so I delivered you out of his hand .
11.
Und da ihr über den Jordan ginget und gen Jericho kamet,
And ye went over Jordan , and came unto Jericho : and
stritten wider euch die Bürger von Jericho , die Amoriter,
the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites,
Pheresiter, Canaaniter, Hethiter, Girgositer ,
and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites,
Heviter und Jebusiter, aber ich gab sie in eure Hände.
the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand .
12.
Und sandte Hornisse vor euch her, die trieben sie aus vor
And I sent the hornet before you , which drave them out from before
euch her, die zwei Könige der Amoriter, nicht durch dein
you , [even] the two kings of the Amorites; [but] not with thy
Schwert, noch durch deinen Bogen.
sword, nor with thy bow .
13.
Und habe euch ein Land gegeben, daran ihr nicht gearbeitet
And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour
habt, und Städte, die ihr nicht gebaut habt , daß ihr darinnen
, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them
wohnet, und esset von Weinbergen und Oelbergen , die ihr nicht gepflanzt
; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted
habt .
not do ye eat.
14.
So fürchtet nun den Herrn, und dienet ihm treulich und
Now therefore fear the LORD , and serve him in sincerity and
rechtschaffen, und lasset fahren die Götter, denen eure Väter gedient haben
in truth : and put away the gods which your fathers served
jenseit des Wassers und in Egypten, und dienet dem Herrn.
on the other side of the flood , and in Egypt ; and serve ye the LORD .
15.
Gefällt es euch aber nicht , daß ihr dem Herrn dienet,
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD ,
so erwählet euch heute , welchem ihr dienen wollet; dem Gott,
choose you this day whom ye will serve ; whether the gods
dem eure Väter gedient haben jenseit des Wassers,
which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood ,

16.
Da antwortete das Volk und sprach: Das sei ferne von uns, daß wir

17.
Denn der Herr, unser Gott, hat uns und unsere
For the LORD our God , he [it is] that brought us up and our

fathers out of the land of Egypt , from the house of bondage, and which
hat vor unsern Augen solche große Zeichen gethan und uns
did those great signs in our sight, and
behütet auf dem ganzen Wege, den wir gezogen sind, und unter allen
preserved us in all the way wherein we went , and among all

18.
Und hat ausgestoßen vor uns her alle Völker der
And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the
Amoriter, die im Lande wohnten; darum wollen wir auch
Amorites which dwelt in the land : [therefore] will we also serve
dem Herrn dienen; denn er ist unser Gott.
the LORD ; for he [is] our God .
19.
Josua sprach zum Volke : Ihr könnet dem Herrn nicht dienen,
And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD :
denn er ist ein heiliger Gott, ein eifriger Gott, der
for he [is] an holy God ; he [is] a jealous God ; he will not forgive
eurer Uebertretung und Sünde nicht schonen wird.
your transgressions nor your sins .
20.
Wenn ihr aber den Herrn verlasset und einem fremden Gott dienet,
If ye forsake the LORD , and serve strange gods ,
so wird er sich wenden und euch plagen und euch umbringen ,
then he will turn and do you hurt , and consume you,
nachdem er euch Gutes gethan hat.
after that he hath done you good .
21.
Das Volk aber sprach zu Josua : Nicht also, sondern wir wollen
And the people said unto Joshua, Nay ; but we will serve
dem Herrn dienen.
the LORD .
22.
Da sprach Josua zum Volke : Ihr seid Zeugen über euch ,
And Joshua said unto the people, Ye [are] witnesses against yourselves
daß ihr den Herrn euch erwählt habt, daß ihr ihm dienet ;
that ye have chosen you the LORD , to serve him.
und sie sprachen: Ja .
And they said , [We are] witnesses.
23.
So thut nun von euch die fremden Götter, die
Now therefore put away , [said he], the strange gods which [are]
unter euch sind, und neiget euer Herz zu dem Herrn, dem Gott Israels.
among you , and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel .
24.
Und das Volk sprach zu Josua : Wir wollen dem Herrn, unserm Gott,
And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we
dienen und seiner Stimme gehorchen.
serve , and his voice will we obey .
25.
Also machte Josua desselben Tages einen Bund mit dem Volke
So Joshua made a covenant with the people that
und legte ihnen Gesetze und Rechte vor zu Sichem.
day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
26.
Und Josua schrieb dieß alles in das Gesetzbuch Gottes, und nahm
And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God , and took
einen großen Stein und richtete ihn auf daselbst unter einer Eiche, die
a great stone, and set it up there under an oak , that [was]
bei dem Heiligthum des Herrn war.
by the sanctuary of the LORD .
27.
Und sprach zum ganzen Volke : Siehe , dieser Stein soll Zeuge
And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness
sein zwischen uns. Denn er hat gehört alle Rede des Herrn, die er
unto us ; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he
mit uns geredet hat; und soll ein Zeuge über euch
spake unto us : it shall be therefore a witness unto you
sein, daß ihr euern Gott nicht verleugnet.
, lest ye deny your God .
28.
Also ließ Josua das Volk , einen Jeglichen in sein Erbtheil .
So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.
29.
Und es begab sich nach dieser Geschichte, daß Josua , der Sohn Nuns, der
And it came to pass after these things , that Joshua the son of Nun , the
Knecht des Herrn, starb, da er hundert und zehn Jahre alt war.
servant of the LORD , died , [being] an hundred and ten years old .
30.
Und man begrub ihn in der Grenze seines Erbtheils , zu Thimnath=Serah,
And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-serah,
die auf dem Gebirge Ephraim liegt, von mitternachtwärts am Berge
which [is] in mount Ephraim , on the north side of the hill

31.
Und Israel diente dem Herrn, so lange Josua lebte und
And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua , and all the days of

the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known

32.
Die Gebeine Josephs, welche die Kinder Israel hatten
And the bones of Joseph , which the children of Israel brought up
aus Egypten gebracht, begruben sie zu Sichem in dem Stück Feldes,
out of Egypt , buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground
das Jakob kaufte von den Kindern Hemors, des Vaters Sichems, um
which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an
hundert Groschen , und ward der Kinder
hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of
Josephs Erbtheil.
Joseph .
33.
Eleasar, der Sohn Aarons, starb auch; und sie begruben ihn zu Gibea,
And Eleazar the son of Aaron died ; and they buried him in a hill
seines Sohnes Pinehas, die ihm gegeben war
[that pertained to] Phinehas his son , which was given
